Sawtooth Relay

Today we did the Sawtooth Relay. If you remember, we completed this race 2 years ago as well. It is a fabulous group event and is usually lots of fun, despite the 64 miles that you trek.

Jer's mom was planning to come and watch the kids but had to suddenly back out due to an injury. (we missed you!) So we frantically began brainstorming what to do with our family circus. Julie, so graciously accepted the task of watching not only the boys, but Libby as well. We appreciated it so much, but I couldn't help but worry that our family would be intruding on their plans. The boys were so excited for a "sleepover", and she "claims" :) they did great.
Meanwhile, we drove up to Sun Valley at about 5:30pm and arrived at about 8:30pm on Friday night. We got settled in a condo that a member of the team had some hook-ups to. We tried to go to bed at 10:00 but I'm pretty sure that none of fell asleep, since we had our alarms set at 12:5oam to get up and go to the race. Yes, our starting time was at 3:00am. It was sooooo cold. We had to drive an hour to the starting point. We began the race, on the cold, dark road. But eventually at 5:30am the sun came out. Each person does a leg of 5-6 miles and then after the whole rotation, you have another leg. Because it is up in the mountains, it's really hard to plan for the weather. However, this was Travis's main concern..... Chris, running one of his legs.
The girls in front of the scenery.

My second leg. I felt pretty good for this one, but my knee was really bothering me. Must be getting old....
Before the race....Jer and I ....Our team with our neon orange hats. (They were from our sponsers).
The race is definitely one of those things that you hate to love. It's miserable, it's painful, and it's exhausting,....but it's great. Starting at 12:50 in the morning: NOT SO GREAT. We finished up at 1:00ish, got in line for the lunch and left town by 3:00pm Saturday. I don't think it is safe to make a 3 hour drive after that type of 24 hours. We barely could stay awake to drive. It was bad. We picked the kids up and they seemed to have had so much fun with the other kids Julie mentioned they might be exhausted from the day's events.....

This is what I walked down to find after I put Libby to bed.

I better go do the same. I'm beyond exhausted.....

Wow, talk about determination! Pulling an all-nighter would be disgustingly hard just knowing you had to come home to kids, but to spend the time running? You guys are crazy fierce! Cute pic of you and Jer. And the one of the sleepy heads.

Looking forward to seeing you very soon:)

Who is this "we" that could barely stay awake? If I recall, you were asleep in fifteen minutes and I could barely stay awake!

I'm sure Aunt Julie was amazing. She seems to have a way with the chillins' :). Yeah for summertime! The race looks so fun, tiring, but def. fun.

All I can think about is how incredible it must have been to be that close to God's perfection in creation during a sunrise. Wow.
